Making begins
There’s always something in the air in September that, for me, brings routine, list making and energized sessions in the studio. I think it has a lot to do with the residual habits from going to school every autumn for over half my life. It also helps that my own children returned to school themselves the day after Labor Day.
I welcome that energy and routine as the time has come for the summer visits to the Aquarium to be transformed into actual art for the 2023 exhibit. Specific works are starting to take shape, though I continue to experiment. As a body of work develops, the challenge is finding that balance between having a trusted plan without being too rigid, and welcoming chance without flirting too much with disaster. It’s still early days, but so far so good.
My visits each month will continue. As September’s survey question suggests, there’s still plenty of wonder and curiosity to share with Aquarium goers.
